TRAUMASTEM™ is a haemostatic or haemostyptic agent
composed of the neutral calcium salt of polyuronic acids
(Anhydroglucuronic acid & anhydroglucose 1:1 copolymer)
or modified Calcium Carboxycellulose.

TRAUMASTEM™ is made by degrading a suitable form of plant cell wall cellulose by chemical oxidation, and neutralisation to the calcium salt, with depolymerisation by irradiation. The resulting pale yellow-cream to buff coloured powder is composed of microfibres of about 10 micron diameter and 100 micron in length. Containing by weight between 10 to 18% of carboxyl group and 4 to 8% calcium respectively with reference to dried substance. The suitable form of cellulose used is that prepared from the micronised fine seed coat fibres of the Cotton plant, Gossypium hirsutum, and other cultivated species of Gossypium.

TRAUMASTEM™ is used for the control of bleeding, as capillary haemorrhaging , and serum exudating from damaged tissue wherever conventional methods of local haemostasis is difficult or impractical.

NOTE: Traumastem™ is not suitable for the control of arterial or venous pressure bleeding where appropriate prior 'tying off' or cautery of blood vessels must be carried out. It may be used to control small arteriolar or venous bleeding in combination with application of short time digital pressure or pressure packing.

Surface haemostasis is achieved initially by the physical nature of the microfibres forming a mesh or mat absorbing and entrapping blood cells and platelets followed by enhanced haemocoagulation essentially due to the 'surface effect' of the calcium salt quickly and readily activating the blood clotting processes.

TRAUMASTEM™ is available in four presentations for specific applications to a wide variety of tissue traumas and surgical situations for the control of capillary haemorrhaging and exudation.

TRAUMASTEM™ HAEMOSTATIC DUSTING POWDER
Haemostatic dusting Powder for surface application in the control of bleeding, as capillary haemorrhaging, and serum exudating, from damaged tissues following interventional, invasive or post traumatic and corrective surgery, wherever conventional methods of haemostasis is difficult or impracticable. Particularly useful in control of parenchymatous and osseous bleeding from injured or resected organ surfaces. During and after General or specific Abdominal, Cardio-thoracic, Thoracic, Neurological, Urological, Gynaecological and Orthopaedic surgery. In Pulmonary surgery diffuse bleeding during lung resection. Decortification and adhesiolysis caused by lesions of the visceral or parietal pleura can be quickly arrested.

PRESENTATION: A sterile microfine dusting Powder, consisting entirely of modified calcium carboxycellulose, 2G in screw capped, shaped soft plastic puffer pack container fitted with multi-aperture 'sifter' plug. Sterile packaged with two seperate additional screw on sterile foil packed fine extension nozzles.

TRAUMASTEM™ HAEMOSTATIC GAUZE
Haemostatic Gauze, as a delicately woven, thin fragile pad of modified carboxycellulose fibres. For packing wound cavities in soft or hard tissues and laying onto wound surfaces of soft tissues and internal organs. For wrapping around anastimoses such as those of arterial and venous vessels and the digestive tract.

PRESENTATION: Sterile Single piece 5cm x 7cm in flat peel pouch.

TRAUMASTEM™ HAEMOSTATIC PLUG
Haemostatic dental plugs, dry massed and preform shaped, for insertion into tooth sockets to control protracted postextractional capillary bleeding.

PRESENTATION: The Dental plugs are of a dry massed compound each containing 135mg micronised modified carboxycellulose with 25mg methylcellulose and 40mg modified starch to act as gelling and disintegrant agents. The shaping of the preformed dental plug corresponds to the average geometry of an alveolus after tooth extraction. Sterile packed individually into formed shape blister spaces between firm, light protective, brown plastic film in strips of 5 plugs.

TRAUMASTEM™ HAEMOSTATIC SPRAY
Haemostatic powder in a pressurised aerosol spray. For external use only application on small superficial wounds, grazes, cuts, small burns and post insertion of surgical lines. Particularly useful for application in difficult to access external wound sites.

PRESENTATION: Spray valve, metal aerosol can with internal agitator ball, containing 50ml 'ozone friendly' propellant and 1G of modified carboxycellulose microfine powder.
